Minister Chaudhary calls for restructuring of Dairy Development Board

Kathmandu, June 9: Minister for Agriculture, Forests and Environment Gita Chaudhary has called for restructuring the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), stressing the need to transform it into a more effective and results-oriented institution.

Assuming office as Chairperson of the Board on Monday, Minister Chaudhary pledged to strengthen Nepal’s dairy sector through close coordination with farmers, cooperatives, private enterprises and other stakeholders.

Describing the NDDB as a key institution for dairy farmers and industry stakeholders, she expressed concern that questions have repeatedly been raised about the Board’s relevance due to its inability to consistently deliver tangible results.

“The Board must become more effective and accountable in fulfilling its responsibilities,” Chaudhary said, urging officials and employees to take greater ownership of their work and contribute actively to the development of the dairy industry.

She instructed the Board to focus on increasing milk production, improving market management, safeguarding farmers’ interests and enhancing the overall competitiveness of the sector.

The Minister also emphasized the need for proactive efforts to address challenges facing dairy farmers and to ensure that policies and programmes produce measurable outcomes.

The National Dairy Development Board serves as the government’s advisory body on dairy-sector development. Its mandate includes providing policy recommendations, promoting dairy production and consumption, improving product quality, strengthening market management, reducing dependence on imports and supporting dairy exports. #nepal
