Kathmandu, Dec 7: Karnali Yaks defeated defending champions Janakpur Bolts by 3 wickets in the final match of league round under the ongoing 2nd edition of Nepal Premier League (NPL).
In the match played at Kirtipur-based TU International Cricket Ground on Sunday, Janakpur Bolts had received a 130-run victory target. However, it secured only 126 runs in 20 overs at the loss of six wickets.
In the losing cause, Sanjyay Krishnamurthi scored a half-century (51 runs in 39 balls), for Janakpur Bolts. Sangeet Cooray contributed 25 runs in 32 balls.
For the winning side, William Bosisto took 2 wickets while Mark Watt, Pawan Sarraf, Nandan Yadav and Sompal Kami took 1 wicket each.
Ealier, put into bat first after losing the toss, Karnali Yaks, scored 129 runs in 20 overs at the loss of 9 wickets. It was Imran Sheikh making highest runs, 33.
For Janakpur Bolts, Aditya Mahta and Lalit Rajbanshi took two wickets each.
It may be noted that Janakpur Bolts and Karnali Yaks, which have already exited from the tournament, were playing for a name. Following today’s win, Karnali collected 4 points in total while defending champions, came last with only one win in seven matches.
Meanwhile, Sudurpaschim Royals and Biratnagar Kings have entered the qualifiers while Kathmandu Gorkhas and Lumbini Lions secured spots in eliminators round.
