Kathmandu : India has stood atop the medal tally, with a total of 118 medals, as the 13th South Asian Games (SAG) has come mid-way.
In the mega regional sports event being held in Kathmandu and two other venues (Pokhara and Janakpur) since December 1, India has so far won 58 gold medals, 41 silver and 19 bronze.
Host country Nepal stands second in the medal tally with 96 medals comprising 36 gold, 26 silver and 34 bronze. Sri Lanka has the third highest medals with 16 gold, 31 silver and 52 bronze.
Pakistan is in the fourth position with 12 gold medals, 21 silver and 22 bronze while Bangladesh is ranked fifth in the medal tally with 4 gold medals, 10 silver and 40 bronze.
Maldives has secured sixth position with one gold medal, two bronze while Bhutan is at the bottom of the medal tally with ranked with only 6 bronze medals.
Juni wins gold in Wushu
Nepal’s Juni Rai has won gold medal in Wushu under the 13th South Asian Games underway in the country. She won the coveted gold in 56 kg weight category under Sansau of Wushu women event.
In the final match today held at the Tribhuvan Army Club training centre in Lagankhel, Juni defeated Sri Lanka’s Madhumali 2-0. So far, Nepal has won four gold medals in Wushu.

Nepal bags gold medal in women’s weightlifting
Pokhara : Sanju Chaudhary of Nepal has won a gold medal in the women’s weightlifting in the ongoing 13th South Asian Games (SAG), 2019.
In the match held in Pokhara today, Chaudhary beat her rival, Sri Lanka’s R. M. N. S. Rajapaksha under women’s 59-kg weight group, lifting a total of 171kgs.
She became the first woman gold medalist for Nepal in the SAG’s history under the women’s weightlifting category.
The Sri Lankan woman weightlifter had lifted a total of 161-kg and pocketed silver while Bangladeshi player, Fayama Akhtar, clinched bronze medal lifting 160-kg in total.
Likewise, under 55-kg category of women’s wrestling, Indian woman player, Bindya Rani Devi, secured gold medal with a total of 181kgs.
Bangladeshi player, Phulpoti Chasma lifted 148 kgs to get silver and Pakistani player, Saima Sahazaad received bronze with 135 kgs.
Similarly, Nepal’s Tularam Mahato got bronze, lifting a total of 178-kg in the wrestling match held today under the men’s 55-kg weight group. Sri-Lanka’s Y.D.I Kumara bagged gold medal, lifting altogether 235-kg and Bangladesh’s Raj Kumar Raya secured silver lifting a total of 184-kg in the same competition.
Under the 61-kg category of men’s wrestling, India’s Siddant Gogai pocketed gold medal lifting 264-kg. He defeated Sri Lanka’s Paluga Singhe who had lifted a total of 263-kg. Bangladesh’s Mostain Bela became third in the competition and won bronze lifting a total of 130-kg.

Nepal in final of SAG Women Football
Pokhara: The Nepali women football team has entered the final in the ongoing 13th South Asian Games in Pokhara. Footballer Sabitra Bhandari’s hat trick resulted in Nepal’s victory over Maldives with a score of 3-0.
With this, Nepal secured final collecting six points before playing the last match with India scheduled for Saturday. Earlier, the women’s team defeated Sri Lanka 1-0.
Bhandari scored two goals in the first half and one in the second. The first goal was scored in the 18th minute helped by a pass from Anita Basnet’s pass. She scored through a header. Bhandari also utilized the chance to score the next four minutes after the first.
Moreover, she cashed in the foul committed on her by opposition players inside penalty box in the injury time, which gave the third and final goal of the match, taking the Nepali team to the final.
Four countries- India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, India and host Nepal- are participating in the women’s football layed on Round Robin League. India has already entered final, collecting six points with victory over Sri Lanka and Maldives. Nepal will play India in the final league match and also in the final match.
Bhupen bags gold medal in taekwondo
Bhupen Shrestha of Nepal has claimed a gold medal in the men’s taekwondo discipline in the ongoing 13th South Asian Games (SAG), 2019.
In the match held at Satdobato, Lalitpur today, Bhupen defeated India’s Akshaya Hooda 29-26 under the 87-kg weight category.
Bangladeshi player Russell Khan and Sri Lanka’s Charma Tharindu pocketed silver and bronze respectively in the match.
This is the 12th gold medal secured through taekwondo alone in the 13th SAG that kicked off in December 1.

Gaurika win gold in swimming
Nepal’s Gaurika Singh has won a gold medal in 200 meters swimming under the ongoing 13th South Asian Games (SAG), 2019.
In the competition held at the swimming pool at Satdobato, Lalitpur today, Gaurika bagged gold medal in the 200-metre free style, completing it in 2 minutes 5 seconds and 6 microseconds.
Swimmers from India and Bangladesh secured silver and bronze medals respectively.
The Olympian swimmer, Gaurika, pocketed the first gold medal for Nepal in the SAG’s swimming under the individual category. Earlier, Nepal won a gold medal in the team event category.
