Kathmandu, March 6: Nepal Athletics Association (NAA) has informed that all the preparations for the 16th Asian Cross Country Championship have been completed. As a program of Asian Athletics Association, the NAA will be organizing the Cross Country Championship on tomorrow (Tuesday). The championship will be held at Gokarna Golf Resort.
Bangladesh, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, Maldives, Pakistan and Thailand along with 65 players from 11 countries will compete in the championship. A maximum of 19 players from Nepal will participate in the event. 19 players selected from the qualifying tournament are under closed training by the association.
In the championship, 10 km for senior women and men, 6 km for junior women under 20 years and 8 km for junior men under 20 years of age will be contested in 4 individual and team events. Four players from Nepal in senior women and same five players in all other events will participate in the championship.
The championship has the support of National Sports Council, Bagmati Province Sports Development Council, Far West Sports Development Council, Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Kageshwari Manahara Municipality, Gokarneshwar Municipality, among others.
Nepal Athletics Association Chairman Rajiv Bikram Shah has said, “We would like to thank the Asian Athletics Association and the Association President General Dalan A Hamad for giving the association the opportunity to organize this championship after 22 years.”
Along with Chairman Dalan, other technicians have already arrived for conducting the championship.
