Rajbiraj, April 22: At least 24 houses were destroyed in a fire on Sunday in Sardar Tol of Kanchanrup Municipality-5 Pademara of Saptari district.
The fire started in the cowshed of local Lal Mohan Sardar. According to the district police office, 24 houses of 12 families were completely burnt down.
Police informed that houses of Asha Sardar, Lal Bahadur Sardar, Bijji Sardar, Butu Sardar, Karan Chaudhary and Samundri Sardar were burnt.
According to Kanchanpur area police office, there was a loss of Rs. 25 lakh. Deputy Superintendent of Police Dundiraj Neupane informed that the fire was brought under control with the help of four fire engines from Kanchanpur, Hanumannagar and Rajbiraj Municipalities and Nepal Police, Armed Police, Nepal Army and locals.
There has been an increase in the number of fire incidents in the month of Baisakh due to excessive wind and dry season.
