Siraha, March 21: A total of 40 school buildings are set to be reconstructed in Madhesh Province, including 20 schools in Siraha District, under a joint initiative of BuildOn Nepal, Lahan Municipality, and local communities.
The project has officially begun following the signing of a tripartite agreement among the stakeholders. As part of the first phase, foundation stones have been laid for the construction of three-room school buildings at Bhanu Basic School (Lahan-2), Adharbhut Vidyalaya Singarahi Matiyarwa (Lahan-2), and Madhesh Shahid Vijay Sahani Basic School (Lahan-4). Each school will also be equipped with separate toilet facilities.
The initiative emphasizes community participation, making voluntary labour mandatory during the construction process to ensure local ownership and long-term sustainability.
Each school building has an estimated cost of Rs 4.98 million, with Rs 3.39 million funded by BuildOn Nepal and Rs 1.5 million contributed by the local government.
According to Nirmala Chaudhary, Director of BuildOn Nepal’s central office in Dhangadhi, the organization focuses on improving physical infrastructure in rural schools. She added that involving local communities through voluntary labour helps strengthen their connection to development projects and ensures their sustainability.
The project is expected to significantly improve the learning environment and infrastructure for students in rural parts of Madhesh Province. #nepal #school
