Surkhet, Nov 18: A total of 44 candidates have registered their nominations for eight vacant positions in various local levels across Karnali Province.
The positions are vacant due to the deaths of local officials in various municipalities and rural municipalities. The upcoming by-election scheduled for Mangsir 16 (December 1) will be for the posts of Deputy Mayor of Nalgad Municipality, Chairperson of Mahabu Rural Municipality in Dailekh, Vice-Chairperson of Sarkegad Rural Municipality, and five Ward Chairpersons in different local levels.
The Election Office has confirmed that 44 candidates have submitted their nominations for these positions, including six for the Deputy Mayor position, seven for the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson positions of rural municipalities, and 24 candidates for the Ward Chairperson roles.
In Nalgad Municipality of Jajarkot, six candidates have filed for the position of Deputy Mayor. The seat became vacant after the tragic death of Sarita Singh, the Deputy Mayor from the Nepali Congress, who passed away in the earthquake of 2080 BS. The nominees for the post are:
– Indrachand Singh (Nepali Congress)
– Sunita Bohara (CPN-UML)
– Devaka Lamichhane (CPN-Maoist Center)
– Sunita Pun Rawal (Rastriya Prajatantra Party)
– Parbati Pun (Rastriya Swatantra Party)
– Pabitra Jaishi (Nepal Samajbadi Party)
For Mahabu Rural Municipality Chairperson in Dailekh, seven candidates have filed their nominations. The position became vacant after the death of Laxman Gurung (Nepali Congress) in 2079 BS. The candidates are:
– Jhalak Bahadur Bhandari (Nepali Congress)
– Jung Bahadur Baral Magar (CPN-Maoist Center)
– Jagat Bahadur Hamal (CPN-Unified Socialist)
– Jung Bahadur Shahi (CPN-UML)
– Prakash Kumar Budha (Rastriya Swatantra Party)
– Surje Rawat (Rastriya Prajatantra Party)
– Durga Bahadur Magar (Nepal Peasant Party)
Similarly, for Dullu Municipality Ward 13 in Dailekh, six candidates are contesting for the Ward Chairperson position after the death of the former officeholder Birkba Bahadur Shahi (CPN-UML). The candidates are:
– Resham Bahadur Shahi (Nepali Congress)
– Lal Bahadur Shahi (CPN-UML)
– Dhakendra Shahi (CPN-Maoist Center)
– Purna Prasad Upadhyaya (Nepal Ekikrit Samajwadi Party)
– Ram Bahadur Shahi (Rastriya Swatantra Party)
– Resham Malla (Rastriya Prajatantra Party)
In Sarkegad Rural Municipality of Humla, the position of Vice-Chairperson became vacant after Chandra Singh Karki, who was elected from the CPN-Maoist Center, passed away in a bus accident in 2081BS. For this position, seven candidates are contesting:

– Jana Shahi (CPN-UML)
– Debaki Timilsina (CPN-Maoist Center)
– Sangita Shahi (Rastriya Prajatantra Party)
– Bacha Budha (Rastriya Swatantra Party)

In Tripura Sundari Municipality-5 in Dolpa, four candidates have filed for the Ward Chairperson position after the death of Nanda Lal Roka (CPN-UML). The candidates are:
– Rajendra Prasad Neupane (Nepali Congress)
– Nar Bahadur Rokaya (CPN-UML)
– Nar Bahadur Jhakri (CPN-Maoist Center)
– Jyoti Gharti (CPN-Unified Socialist)
For Tilagufa Municipality-4 in Kalikot, six candidates have filed for the Ward Chairperson position after the tragic disappearance of Par Bahadur Shahi (CPN-Maoist Center) due to a flood in 2079 BS. The candidates are:
– Pail Bahadur Shahi (Nepali Congress)
– Ain Bahadur Shahi (CPN-UML)
– Khadka Raj Shahi (CPN-Unified Socialist)
– Naushobha Shahi (CPN-Maoist Center)

In Kushe Rural Municipality-7 of Jajarkot, four candidates are contesting for the Ward Chairperson position after the death of Man Bahadur Gharti (CPN-Maoist Center). The candidates are:

– Dammar Bahadur Gharti (CPN-UML)
– Gorkha Bahadur Nepali (CPN-Maoist Center)
– Lal Bahadur Khatri (Rastriya Prajatantra Party)
In Sani Bheri Rural Municipality Ward 5 of Rukum West, four candidates are vying for the Ward Chairperson position after the death of the former officeholder Al Bahadur Khatri (Nepali Congress).The candidates are:

– Jashiram Basnet (CPN-Maoist Center)
– Hansraj Puri (CPN-Unified Socialist)
– Bir Bahadur Basnet (Independent)
