Kathmandu, May 28: Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav held a courtesy meeting with the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Zhang Maoming, at the Office of the Vice President in Lainchaur on Wednesday.
Following an exchange of greetings and best wishes, the two sides discussed bilateral relations, Nepal–China economic cooperation, and prospects for future collaboration.
Vice President Yadav warmly welcomed Ambassador Maoming and wished him a successful tenure in Nepal. He thanked the Chinese government for its support during Nepal’s recent parliamentary elections and expressed confidence that Nepal–China relations would continue to deepen and strengthen.
“The relationship between Nepal and China is founded on the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, longstanding friendship, and mutual respect,” Vice President Yadav said. Reiterating Nepal’s commitment to the “One China Policy,” he stated that Nepal would not allow any activities against China’s interests to be carried out on Nepali soil. He also highly appreciated China’s continued respect for Nepal’s sovereignty and independence.
The Vice President noted that the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and China, celebrated last year, had further reinforced bilateral ties. He expressed gratitude for China’s generous development assistance to Nepal and said both countries could further expand cooperation in trade, tourism, investment, infrastructure, energy, and technology transfer.
Vice President Yadav also stated that Nepal is eager to accelerate the implementation of projects agreed under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) framework as well as other cooperation projects. He said Nepal is actively working to create a business-friendly and investment-friendly environment for Chinese investors. He further expressed confidence that China’s 15th Five-Year Plan would create new opportunities for cooperation in infrastructure, connectivity, energy, trade, and investment.
Highlighting Nepal’s willingness to work closely with China in multilateral and regional forums for shared progress and prosperity, the Vice President reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations.
Ambassador Maoming expressed happiness over Nepal’s recently concluded House of Representatives elections and voiced confidence that they would contribute to political stability in the country. He noted that Nepal holds an important place in China’s foreign policy and said China is ready to cooperate with Nepal in sectors such as electricity, roads, and tourism.
“China encourages its investors to invest in Nepal,” Ambassador Maoming said. “China remains committed to supporting the Civil Hospital in Kathmandu and the Cancer Hospital in Chitwan. China is also interested in operating education and health projects in Madhesh Province.” #Nepal #China
