Kathmandu, June 6: The ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has taken forward the process of electing new leadership in 38 districts as its district convention was organized on Saturday while some are slated for tomorrow.
According to the RSP’s central election commission, conventions were held in districts including Jhapa, Morang, Tehrathum, Taplejung, Bhojpur, Sankhuwasabha, Okhaldhunga, Sunsari, Mahottari, Rautahat, Dolakha, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Nuwakot, Dhading, Makwanpur, Kavrepalanchok, Sindhupalchok and Sindhuli on Saturday.
Likewise, district conventions also took place in Syangja, Kaski, Parbat, Baglung, Myagdi, Gulmi, Nawalparasi, Palpa, Kapilvastu, Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Rolpa, Kalikot, Salyan, Baitadi, Bajhang and Darchula districts.
The party mentioned that all technical and administrative preparations have been completed for what it describes as a major campaign to transform the organization into a fully legitimate and democratically mandated entity.
The RSP aims to hold conventions in 67 of 77 districts of the country before its first national general convention slated to take place on June 21-23 in Chitwan district.
Likewise, district convention is scheduled for 27 districts on Sunday. Udayapur, Solukhumbu, Khotang, Ilam, Siraha, Dhanusha, Parsa, Sarlahi, Chitwan, Lalitpur, Tanahun, Nawalpur, Gorkha, Lamjung, Arghakhanchi, Rupandehi, Pyuthan, Surkhet, Jajarkot, Dailekh, Rukum, Mugu, Jumla, Achham, Doti, Dadeldhura, Kailali, Kanchanpur and Bajura are scheduled to organize their district convention.
Due to special organizational circumstances, the convention in Bara district will be held on June 9, the party said.
Commission’s Chief Bhuwan KC shared that seven provincial election committees, each consisting of five members, have been formed to oversee provincial conventions.
Likewise, a three-member election committee was formed in each district to ensure fair and transparent voting process.
District conventions in remaining 10 districts, however, will be held following the party’s national general convention in June, added KC.
Talking to the RSS regarding the ongoing district convention and organizational restructuring bid, KC observed the district conventions are crucial in transitioning the party from temporary leadership structures to a fully institutionalized and democratically mandated organization.
He expressed the confidence that the tendency to lay a claim on permanent leadership based on interim responsibilities will come to an end through a fair electoral process. #nepal #rss
