Kathmandu, July 15: The government has appointed Maheswor Bhakta Shrestha, Chairperson of the Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) Board of Directors, as the corporation’s Executive Chairperson, with additional responsibility to serve as General Manager.

The decision was made during a meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Tuesday at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) in Singha Durbar.

Announcing the cabinet decisions, Government Spokesperson and Minister for Education, Sasmit Pokharel, said Shrestha would simultaneously perform the responsibilities of both Executive Chairperson and General Manager of the state-owned national flag carrier.

However, his appointment would violate the existing law as he was nearly 80 years of age.

The Cabinet also approved a special incentive allowance for personnel of the Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal deployed in disaster search, rescue and relief operations during emergencies.

In another decision, the government approved cash awards and letters of appreciation for athletes, coaches, assistant coaches, physiotherapists and team managers who win medals in international competitions.

The Cabinet further directed the Ministry of Home Affairs to immediately implement the recommendations of various commissions previously formed to address cases of unfair financial transactions and loan sharking (meter-byaj).

Additionally, the government approved the Seeds (First Amendment) Regulations, 2083 BS, aimed at updating the country’s regulatory framework governing seed production and distribution. #nepal
