Kathmandu, July 16: Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel has said the government has given high priority to expanding the use of information technology (IT) in schools and universities and is working to integrate digital skills into Nepal’s education system.
Speaking at a national roundtable discussion on “Innovation, Technology Transfer, Talent Development and Accelerating Nepal’s Digital Economy through Global Cooperation”, Pokharel said the Ministry of Education and Sports is formulating policies and programmes to promote digitalisation, inclusion and digital skill development across educational institutions.
The programme was jointly organised by the ICT Committee of the Information Technology Society (ITS) Nepal and the Nepal Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and other stakeholders.
Minister Pokharel said the initiative aims to strengthen collaboration between universities and the IT industry, while encouraging more young people to pursue careers in the technology sector.
He added that the interaction brought together entrepreneurs, technology experts and policymakers to explore ways of aligning higher education with the needs of Nepal’s growing digital economy.
Speaking at the event, Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation Mahabir Pun said Nepal has enormous potential in the information technology sector and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating employment opportunities for young people through digital innovation.
He noted that the IT sector offers significant income opportunities based on skills and expertise with relatively low investment, making it an important driver of both individual prosperity and national economic growth.
Participants at the programme also highlighted Nepal’s strong potential in the IT sector and said closer cooperation between the government, educational institutions and the private sector would contribute to improving the quality of education, generating employment and accelerating the country’s digital economy.
They also expressed their commitment to supporting government initiatives aimed at developing Nepal’s information technology ecosystem. #nepal
