‘Lawmaker Koiri is fugitive, accused, not ill’

Kathmandu, April 28: The meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) was interrupted for a while over the issue of lawmaker Laxmi Mahato Koiri, who is in the fugitive list of the Home Ministry.

Lawmakers obstructed the meeting by standing off their seats and demanding to remove the issue from the record of the Secretariat after Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire briefed the House that the information was received that lawmaker Koiri was ill.

After Speaker Ghimire allocated time to speak, lawmaker Ramesh Lekhak said Koiri, who is in the fugitive list, should not be called sick and demanded to remove the issue from the record.

Saying lawmaker Koiri is an absconding accused, Rabi Lamichhane shared that Indian police have taken Koiri under control and he had the photo related to this. He expected formation of a probe committee in this regard and ruling from the Speaker.

Similarly, Prem Suwal drew attention of the House why the parliament was not informed that Koiri was in police’s fugitive list.

Chitra Bahadur KC and Hitraj Pandey urged Speaker for clear ruling about absconding accused Koiri.

Stating that his attention was drawn towards the issue raised by the lawmakers, Speaker Ghimire mentioned that it would be addressed as per constitution, existing laws and Parliament Regulations.
