Speaker Ghimire for effective and result-oriented functioning of parliament

Kathmandu, Feb 5: Speaker of the House of Representatives, Devraj Ghimire, has expressed his belief that the winter session of the parliament will become more effective and result-oriented.

Speaking at the first meeting of the third session of the House of Representatives here today, Speaker Ghimire expressed his belief that the session will see the passage of important bills, while addressing issues of public interest and giving instructions to the government along with lawmaking.

The Speaker stressed the need for unity among political parties on issues of common interest of the nation and requested for support from the parliamentarians to make parliament activities and practices effective and progressive by adopting the rule of law, transparency and accountability.

He also shared that a new practice has been started with the implementation of a calendar of activities from this session.

Winter session of Federal Parliament kicks off

The winter session of the Federal Parliament has commenced from today. The third session of the House of Representatives and the 15th session of the National Assembly has started at the Federal Parliament Building, New Baneshwar.

Speaker Devraj Ghimire in the House of Representatives and Chairman Ganesh Prasad Timilsina in the National Assembly welcomed the lawmakers to their respective sessions and read out the letters regarding the convening of the parliament session received from the Office of the President and the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.

Ordinance and Order to remove difficulties tabled in parliament

An ordinance related to financial procedures and an order to remove difficulties were tabled at the meeting of the House of Representatives.

In the meeting, Finance Minister Dr Prakasharan Mahat tabled the ‘Financial Procedures and Financial Accountability (First Amendment) Ordinance, 2080’. The Ordinance includes provisions such as moving forward the time period for prior discussions on the government’s policies and programs and budget.

Likewise, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Dhanraj Gurung table the Order to remove difficulties related to extending the term of two Commissions related to transitional justice as provided by Section 42 of the Commission for Investigation of Disappeared Persons, Truth and Reconciliation Act, 2071 BS.

The House of Representatives will meet again at 11:00 am on February 7. #Nepal
