MPs draw govt’s attention on contemporary issues
The National Assembly (NA) members have drawn the government’s attention towards various contemporary issues including natural disasters, inflation and corruption, among others.
Speaking during the Special Hour of the NA’s meeting today, Nepali Congress’s Kiranbabu Shrestha urged the government to address the anomalies and abbreviations that have surfaced along with the development of communication and technology.
He insisted that we should make proper use of communication and technology rather than misusing it and gradually eliminating the anomalies prevailing in the communication sector.
According to him, despite the political changes in the country, the condition of people had not improved yet.
He, thus, called for unity among the political parties to bring about positive changes in the lives of people along with ensuring economic prosperity in the country.
Similarly, Jagat Prasad Sharma viewed that we should focus on strengthening federalism, arguing that federalism is a foundation for building socialism, not division. CPN (Unified Socialist)’s Rajendra Laxmi Gaire cited that 122 people died and 22 were missing in the natural disasters in the last four months and stressed on effective disaster preparedness.
Gaire also demanded that those affected by natural disasters such as landslide, floods and earthquake must be provided relief immediately.
Also, airing his views, NC’s Padam Bahadur Pariyar said that the political parties and leadership that strove for political change should be sincere in ensuring rule of law in the country.
”The current political leadership understands the history of Nepal and has fought for a change. But it seems to lack energy and enthusiasm to address the contemporary issues,” he lamented.
Likewise, CPN (Maoist Centre)’s Shree Krishna Adhikari called for prompt action on the part of government to resume the landslide-obstructed Araniko Highway. He also cautioned towards the likelihood of price hike ahead of upcoming festivals. “I urge the government to ensure the operation of the disrupted roads, curb inflation and black marketeering and facilitate the return of citizens through southern border during the festival season,” he appealed.
CPN (UML)’s Rukmini Koirala noted that there was growing dissatisfaction among public towards the incumbent government due to its failure to meet public’s aspirations. Emphasizing the need to empower local government thereby further strengthening federalism, Koirala voiced, “The government should be serious towards addressing fundamental issues such as education reform, job creation, quality healthcare services, commercialization of agriculture and industrialization among others.”
