Kathmandu, Aug 29: The Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) has said that the number of complaints have increased by around a fourth. With the 63,718 cases pending, the TRC has received 15,157 new complaints, thereby taking the final tally to 78,875.
According to TRC official, only 314 of 63,718 cases lodged in the past were related to rape and other sexual violence as most victims were not confident about the privacy and confidentiality in handling of their cases.
Likewise, according to the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons, of the total complaints, 3877 are conflict-related sexual violence cases.
Both the Commissions have published a three-month deadline to lodge cases.
Two political parties leaving Oli led government
Two fringe parties have threatened to leave the KP Oli led government after their demands were not met. According to party sources, Ashok Rai led Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and Mahantha Thakur led Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP) will withdraw from the government. However they will continue to supporting the government.
Both the parties have repeatedly requested Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to remove three ministers representing JSP and LSP. These parties have requested their ministers to immediately resign from the post, but neither they resigned nor PM Oli removed them.
The JSP has decided to replace ministers Mr Pradip Yadav and Nawal Kishor Shah Sudi with Dr. Birendra Mahato and Ranju Jha. Likewise, LSP has decided to recall Minister Sharat Singh Bhandari and send Mr Sarbendra Nath Sukla.
Broadband internet reached in 708 local bodies
A total of 708 local bodies have been connected through broadband internet services of 5 mbps capacity by using Rural Telecommunications Development Fund (RTDF). The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has been working to reach all 753 local bodies through 18 different packages. The NTA has so far invested nearly Rs. 5 arba 43 crores.
The NTA receives 2% of the income of telecom operators as royalties. The royalty will be used to create telecom infrastructure in the country.
20 people died with encephalitis
The number of people died by encephalitis has reached 20 within three months. Even, five people lost their lives in the past week. According to reports, two from Nawalparasi (east), one from Nawalparasi (west), one each from Banke and Bardiya died within a period of one week. A total of 103 people were infected with Japanese encephalitis. In every summer season, many people have been suffering from encephalitis in terai region.
PM Oli to raise issue of Lipulekh
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that he will raise the issue of Lipulekh with Indian and Chinese leaders during his China visit. He was addressing the House of Representatives meeting on Friday. He briefed the House that he will be taking part the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Tianjin and leave for Beijing to observe the Victory Parade.
During a visit to New Delhi by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, India has decided unilaterally to open Lipulekh border point for trade and pilgrimage to Mansarowar and Mt Kailash. Nepal claims that Lipulekh is a part of Nepal, however India has occupied the surrounding areas including Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura for a long time.
