Kathmandu, Nov 25: The Bibaha Panchami festival is being observed across the country today. This festival, which commemorates the divine union of Princess Sita and Lord Ram in the Treta Yug (Vedic era), is celebrated with great enthusiasm and religious devotion in Janakpurdham.

The festival falls on the fifth day of Marga Shukla Paksha (the waxing phase of the moon) in the Nepali month of Mangsir, according to the lunar calendar.

The celebrations begin with the Nagar Darshan (town visit) ritual on the first day, during which two children dressed as Ram and his brother Laxman parade around the historic Janaki Temple. The second day, known as Phulbari Leela, features dance performances and vibrant processions.

The third day is marked by the Dhanusha Yagya, followed by Tilakotsav on the fourth day. The fifth day is celebrated as Matkor, and the final day marks the reenactment of Ram Sita Swoyambar, symbolizing the divine engagement of Ram and Sita.

The following day, saints and religious leaders from neighboring Indian cities—including Ayodhya—who arrive in Janakpurdham to witness the reenactment are ceremoniously bid farewell, marking the conclusion of the festival.

People from various faiths, including Buddhism and Sikhism, also visit Janakpurdham to observe the festivities, while Hindu religious leaders and devotees participate in large numbers.

During the festival, special worship is offered to Lord Ram and Goddess Sita, and devotees pay homage to the revered divine couple. Janakpur, the capital of Madhesh Province, is believed to be the birthplace of Sita and the ancient capital of the Mithila Kingdom. #nepal #janakpur
