Itahari, Jan 15: Five people were killed and three others injured after a marble loaded cargo truck overturned on the Hulaki Road (Postal Highway) at Bhokraha Narsingh Rural Municipality in Sunsari early this morning.
According to the District Police Office, Sunsari, the truck (registration number 1 Kha 4541), which was transporting marble from Biratnagar to Rajbiraj, lost control and overturned on the road. All five deceased were residents of Barju Ward No. 1 of Sunsari.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Chandra Khadka identified the victims as 32-year-old Birendra Gurung, 55-year-old Brahmadev Gurung, 50-year-old Tekbahadur Gurung, 28-year-old Nisu Gurung, and 55-year-old Chandra Bahadur Gurung.
Police said there were nine people aboard the truck at the time of the accident. Four, including the driver, were seated in the front cabin, while five were traveling in the rear. The five passengers in the back were crushed by the marble cargo and died on the spot.
The three injured occupants from the cabin are currently undergoing treatment at Nursing Home in Biratnagar. The truck driver has fled the scene, and a search is underway. Further investigation into the incident is ongoing. #accident #nepal
