Vice President Yadav attends reception

Kathmandu, Feb 11: Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav attended a reception hosted by the Japanese Embassy in Kathmandu today.

He participated in the welcoming ceremony organized to mark the 66th birth anniversary of Japanese Emperor Naruhito and 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Japan.

On the occasion, Japanese Ambassador, Maeda Toru, while greeting the attendees present there, expressed confidence that the warm and friendly relations between Nepal and Japan would deepen further in the days to come.

The 66th birthday of the Japanese Emperor is being grandly celebrated on February 23. He said, “This year has been of great importance to us, with the four-day visit of President Ramchandra Paudel to Japan on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Japan.”

Ambassador Toru mentioned that President Paudel’s meetings with the Emperor, Empress, and the Prime Minister of Japan have further contributed to expanding the relations between the two countries.

He noted that such exchanges have also strengthened the people-to-people relations that began in 1899.

The ambassador also highlighted that a Japanese doctor opened a hospital in Tansen in 1960 and provided care and protection to 12 children who had lost their parents to tuberculosis, reflecting the people-to-people relationship and contribution.

Similarly, a Japanese professor has mentioned the practice of teaching some Nepali students in Japan each year and bringing them to Nepal for various research work, and at a personal level, some Japanese mountaineers have been assisting in the Himalayan regions of Nepal.

Currently, around 270,000 Nepali people are engaged in studies, teaching, and various professions in Japan. Japan is not only a major development partner of Nepal but also a country with deep friendships, good will, and cooperation at the people’s level.

Recently, the two countries have reached agreements to enhance mutual interests in areas such as trade, investment, human resource development, health, agriculture, infrastructure development, environmental protection, culture, and tourism.

The ceremony saw participation from the incumbent ministers, former Chairperson of the Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi, former Foreign Ministers, leaders of various political parties, heads of constitutional bodies, senior government officials, heads of security agencies, and heads and representatives of diplomatic missions in Nepal.
