Kathmandu, April 7: The government has made several key decisions during a cabinet meeting held on Tuesday.

According to Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration, Pratibha Rawal, the meeting appointed Dr. Gunakar Bhatta as the Vice-Chairperson of the National Planning Commission.

The Cabinet also appointed Kiran Pandit, Executive Director of Nepal Rastra Bank, as Deputy Governor, filling one of the vacant positions.

In a bid to ease fuel supply pressures, the government has decided to grant a 50% customs duty waiver on petroleum imports. Additionally, it approved the acceptance of a concessional loan worth 85 million USD from the World Bank for the Greater Lumbini Area Development Project.

The meeting also decided to relocate the Water and Energy Research Center from Pulchowk, Lalitpur Metropolitan City-3, to Godawari Municipality-3 in Lalitpur district.

Minister Rawal stated that the Nepal Oil Corporation has incurred losses exceeding NRs 11 billion in the past 15 days due to petroleum supply issues, which has forced price adjustments.

She further noted that the government may introduce an odd-even vehicle system if deemed necessary to manage fuel consumption. The public has also been encouraged to adopt work-from-home practices and increase the use of electric vehicles to reduce dependency on fuel. #nepal #cabinet
