Birgunj customs collects Rs 177.66 billion in nine months



Birgunj, April 21: The Birgunj Customs Office of Nepal has collected revenue of Rs 177.66 billion in the first nine months of the current fiscal year 2082/83 BS.

This is Rs 16.20 billion (about 10 percent) more than the revenue collected during the same period of the previous fiscal year.

According to Information Officer Uday Singh Bista, the office has achieved 89 percent of its target. The Department of Customs had set a target of Rs 199.34 billion for the office for these nine months.

The Birgunj Customs collected Rs 18.44 billion in Shrawan (July/August), Rs 20.73 billion in Bhadra (Aug/Sep), Rs 19.09 billion in Ashoj (Sep/Oct), Rs 17.33 billion in Kartik (Oct/Nov), and Rs 20.80 billion in Mangsir (Nov/Dec).

Similarly, it collected Rs 20.20 billion in Poush (Dec/Jan), Rs 18.92 billion in Magh (Jan/Feb), Rs 19.34 billion in Falgun (Feb/Mar), and Rs 22.82 billion in Chaitra (March/April).

The Department of Customs had set an annual target of Rs 273.39 billion for the Birgunj Customs Office. However, only about 65 percent of the total annual target has been achieved in the first nine months of the current fiscal year. With three months still remaining, there is still potential for further revenue collection.
