Agenda of PM’s China visit be based on nation’s priorities: Minister Saud

Kathmandu, Sept 7: Minister for Foreign Affairs, Narayan Prakash (NP) Saud, has said agenda of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s upcoming China visit are being prepared on the basis of the priorities and interests of the nation.

In a meeting of the International Relations and Tourism Committee, House of Representatives (HoR) on Thursday, the Minister said the agenda were being prepared on the basis of priorities and submissions from other ministries.

Opinions of secretaries from all ministries have been complied regarding the visit and bilateral and multi-lateral meeting are going on before finalising the agenda, according to him.

As he said, the Ministry has planned to seek submissions from the former Prime Ministers, chiefs of political parties and former foreign ministers on the issue.

During the meeting, Committee member and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal stressed the need of further consolidating the bilateral ties with the neighbors and include the committee member in the PM’s entourage to China.

Committee members Dr Dhawal Shumsher JB Rana, Mahanth Thakur, Shishir Khanal, Prabhua Shah, Barshaman Pun, Prem Suwal, Yeknath Dhakal, Sunita Baral and Chhiring Yamu Lama acquired about the preparations in regard with the Prime Minister’s visit to China.

The Prime Minister will be embarking on the visit (September 16-21) to the United States of America to attend the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and will set out to China straightly from there.

General Secretary of the United Nations has invited the Head of State and the Head of Government to discuss and find ways to achieve Sustainable Development Goals, address the impacts of climate change and challenges created by the global pandemic in the United Nations General Assembly.

The Nepali delegation participating in the 78th UN General Assembly in the UN Headquarters in New York will be led by Prime Minister of Nepal Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’. Other delegation members will be Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Prakash Saud, PM’s chief political advisor, national security advisor, the Chief Secretary, the foreign secretary and other high ranking government office bearers.

The delegation will include the Ambassador of Nepal to the United States, the Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations and office bearers of Consulate General of Nepal in New York.

PM Dahal is on behalf of Nepal scheduled to address the high level discussion of the 78th UN General Assembly on coming 21 September.

In the Assembly, the PM is also scheduled to hold sideline talks with the Heads of States, the Heads of Governments and leaders of the delegations. He will also attend dinner to be hosted by the US President Joe Biden, it has been said.
