Kimanthangka, May 26: A total of 14 traditional border trade points connected with China including Kimathangka in Sankhuwasabha have come into operations from Saturday. The Chinese government had closed various border points since 2076 BS following the fear of COVID-19 pandemic.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Vice President of Tibet Autonomous Region Silang Nima jointly announced the reopening of all 14 border crossings along the Nepal-China border, including Kimathanka, in an event organized today in Chhentang, China.
DPM Shrestha while talking to the media persons at Tumlingtar Airport of Sankhuwasabha during the announcement of resuming the checkpoint, said that the operation of the traditional checkpoint has been officially announced from today.
According to him, seven checkpoints have come into operation from today, while the other seven checkpoints will be opened very soon. He said that after the continuous diplomatic efforts of the Nepalese government, 14 trade points including Kimathangka have been resumed.
Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha said that during his official visit to the People’s Republic of China in March, the both sides had agreed to resume the border points.
DPM Shrestha was accompanied by Chief Minister of Koshi Province Hikmat Kumar Karki, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Foreign Affairs, Chief District Officer, Chief of District Security Agency in the announcement event in Chhentang, China.
The residents of Bhotkhola are found excited after the reopening of the Kimathangka border point. In the past, the residents here used to import food from the Chinese market via the point. The customs office was established in 2035 BS in Kimathanga. After the armed conflict in the country, the border customs office at Hatia in Bhotkhola was shifted to Khandbari in 2057 BS.
Kimathangka point is 162 km far from the headquarters. #nepal #china #border
