KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has expressed confidence that the Supreme Court will give verdict in accordance with the provisions of the constitution.
In an interaction with media persons organized by the coalition of opposition parties here on Saturday, he said that the court has the right to make the final interpretation of the constitution instead of appointing the prime minister.
He said that opposition alliance had demanded the Prime Minister with the signatures of 149 parliamentarians as per the call of the President, but the President did not ask for the verification of signatures and instead dissolved the Parliament on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers. He said that it was the duty of the President to call all the parties and hold necessary discussions on such a serious issue.
On the occasion, CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman and another former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ clarified that the alliance of the opposition parties was not based on any interest but was based on the defense of the constitution and democracy and issues of national interest.
He informed that they have demanded the restoration of the parliament and the formation of a new government on the basis of majority as per the provisions of the constitution. Chairman Dahal also expressed confidence that the parliament would be reconstituted as per the provisions of the constitution and a decision would be taken in their favor.
Another former prime minister and disgruntled leader of ruling CPN (UML), Madhav Kumar Nepal, said that he had received the proposal of the prime minister and clarified that the signature would not be returned under any circumstances until the case is decided in the court on behalf of the coalition.
He also remarked that the appointment made to the constitutional body without completing the necessary process was wrong.
Stating that they have raised their voice for the implementation of the constitution, protection of democracy and welfare of the people, leader Nepal informed that the coalition is also mobilizing cadres to solve the current problems of the people.
