Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, who reached in Balkot on Thursday evening to meet CPN UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli with a plea for support after disagreements with the ruling coalition over the US aid Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), have again become confused.
Deuba, who was expecting the support of the CPN UML after the dispute between the ruling parties over the MCC issue, was asked by UML Chairman Oli how the Nepali Congress would help in resolving some serious political issues.
Deuba had told Oli that he was ready to break the alliance if he did not get support from the ruling parties in the parliament.
Prime Minister Deuba, who arrived at Oli’s residence with his wife Arju Rana, had sought the help for the MCC to pass from parliament. After their discussion, Chairman Oli briefed some UML leaders about the talks with Deuba.
A senior UML leader who spoke with Oli told newspolar.com that “Chairman Oli had asked for Deuba’s views on the coalition’s stand and the resumption of the blocked parliament.”
Oli made it clear that he would discuss MCC only after a clear view on two issues was reached.
Prime Minister was furious over the activities of coalition partners on MCC issues. Deuba had to say: “I will table the MCC in the House of Representatives meeting on Friday. If the parties in the alliance do not support, I will break the alliance. Let’s cooperate with the government. Let’s pass the MCC and move forward.”
After Deuba’s proposal, Oli had asked Deuba’s views on Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota.
However, Chairman Oli said, “We will meet the demands of the UML and create an environment conducive to the smooth functioning of the parliament, then we will have in-depth discussions on national issues.”
Deuba is embarrassed as he did not get any positive message from Oli even after discussing for about two hours.
In the meeting of the ruling coalition held in Baluwatar on Thursday, Prime Minister Deuba proposed to pass the MCC from the parliament but no consensus was reached.
The ruling parties, the CPN (Maoist Center) and the CPN (Unified Socialist), have stated that they are ready to leave the government, instead passing MCC from the parliament.
On Thursday afternoon, Congress leader Dr Minendra Rijal also reached Balkot and had a conversation with Oli.
