Bar Association officials meet with the Prime Minister Dahal



Kathmandu, April 13: Officials of Nepal Bar Association, the largest umbrella organization of Nepalese advocates, discussed with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ today and demanded to initiating the process of appointing justices, including Chief Justice. Officials of Nepal Bar Association, ex-officers and former Bar Presidents were present in the discussion held at the Prime Minister’s official residence Baluwatar this morning.

 

In the meeting, Prime Minister Dahal praised the role played by the Bar Association for the defense of democracy and the constitution and reform of the judiciary. During the discussion, Bar officials drew the attention of the Prime Minister to hold a meeting of the Constitutional Council and appoint the Chief Justice as the Supreme Court remained vacant of leadership for 14 months.

Bar Association President Gopal Krishna Ghimire informed that Bar officials have discussed with the Prime Minister about the formation of parliamentary hearing committee. In response, the Prime Minister expressed his commitment to consult with the officials of the Constitutional Council and call an immediate meeting to initiate process on his part to reach the necessary decision.
