Barahathawa Incident: Local administration, agitators sign 11-pt deal



Sarlahi, Jan 7: Ending the three-day-long demonstrations, the agitating side inked an 11-point deal and withdrew all the protests relating to the Barahathawa incident.

As per the agreement signed at the District Administration Office in Malangawa on Sunday, the municipal hospital located at Barahathawa will be handed over to the Madhes Province Government.

According to Chief District Officer Komal Prasad Dhamala, the hospital will be upgraded to 50 beds and will be renamed from the name of one who died in the police firing during the agitation on Friday.

Likewise, a job opportunity will be provided to the family of the deceased.

The 30-year-old Jay Shankar Saha was killed in the clash erupted between the demonstrators and security persons as the locals demonstrated for upgrading a primary health centre of Barahathawa Municipality-6.

With the deal signed today, the agitating side has agreed to withdraw all its protest programmes with immediate effect.
