Beijing opens direct flight to Kathmandu; Himalaya Airlines likely to grab the opportunity



Kathmandu: After the completion construction of second international airport in Beijing ‘Daxing International Airport, Nepali carriers can now fly direct to Beijing straight from Kathmandu.

The newly built airport in Beijing is going to commence its operation from September 30.

The airport has made slots open for domestic flights and flights from Kathmandu, London, Helsinki, Morocco, Casablanca, and Fukuoka in Japan for international carriers.

Himalaya Airlines will be conducting this 5 hours 35 minutes direct flight to Beijing. It has been estimated that the direct flight will take off on October 27 of this year.

However, the company has not made an official announcement for this flight. The company is busy with the internal preparations a source noted. 

Beijing Daxing International Airport

The people of Nepal living in Japan are overwhelmed by the expected operation of this sector however, the fare is relatively high for this sector according to them.

Air Service Agreement (ASA) between Nepal and China was revised this July which main focus was on providing slots to Nepali carriers to the newly constructed international airport of China. The proposal of the direct flight to this airport got approved in the ASA revision of July

At 7.5 million square feet (700,000 square meters), the Daxing Airport’s hexagon-shaped main terminal will be the largest single building airport concourse in the world.

That’s out of 18 square miles (17 square meters) in total for the airport. Eventually it will boast seven runways and be able to accommodate 620,000 flights and 100 million passengers per year, making it one of the busiest airports in the world.
