Kailali, Sept 14: Freed Kamaiya of Kailari Rural Municipality-7 Bipatpur of Kailali have been found overjoyed. 27 freed Kamaiya families here are happy after getting new concrete houses. They were living under tents for a year after their houses were destroyed by fire. The Sudurpashchim Provincial government and Habitat Nepal supported to construct their houses.
Twenty-seven houses in Bipatpur were destroyed by fire that happened on Baisakh 11, 2079BS. A fire set in a wheat field in a nearby field ignited the settlement in the afternoon. Dharmaraj Ojha, Surveyor Officer of the Land Resource Mapping Division of the Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives, informed that the houses were built in partnership by the Sudurpaschim Province government and Habitat Nepal and handed over the houses to the freed Kamaiya amidst a program.
He said that the houses were built at a cost of Rs. 1 crore 82 lakh 78 thousands in which Provincial government provided Rs. 90 lakh, Habitat Nepal supported Rs. 40 lakh and local people contributed Rs. 38 lakh 78 thousands. Punita Chowdhury, Head of West Field Office of Habitat Nepal, said that the houses were built according to the building code.
According to Ojha, 84 houses have been constructed in Far West so far in partnership with the provincial government and Habitat Nepal. The ministry has coordinated to constructing 25 houses of Raji community in Bhajani Municipality of Kailali, 27 houses of freed kamaiya in Bipadpur, 25 of landless, Dalit, freed kamaiya in Bedkot Municipality of Kanchanpur and seven of freed haliya in Doti.
Minister of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives of Sudurpaschim Province, Rameshwar Choudhary said that the provincial government will take steps to manage the lands and settlements of the landless, squatters, freed kamaiyas, and farmers in the province.
