Kathmandu : Senior journalist Bhairab Risal has said securing Nepal’s international border with India is a golden opportunity for the government.

Addressing a programme on border security organized by Sambad Dabali today, he said although many issues related to the protection of the border have been raised, no government has been able to resolve them.

“It is not good if the people’s sentiments are hurt. The government becoming weak is also one of the major reasons for the encroachment on Nepal’s territory at the border,” he added.

Senior journalist Risal said India saw only 10 governments change from 1981 to 2018 whereas Nepal saw 18 govern changes during the same period. According to him, this shows how short-lived the governments in Nepal were during the period which made them weak.

Stating that the government has the full support of the people on the matters of protecting the Nepal’s border, he urged the government to immediately take steps to bring back the Nepali land that has been encroached upon by using any mechanism.

Nepal Communist Party (NCP) leader Prakash Rokaya suggested that like China, Nepal should build wall on the border by raising funds from the people.

NCP another leader Karna Jeet Budhathoki said that India has not encroached upon Nepali land only but has done the same on the land of its other neighbours also.
