Finance Minister Paudel out of danger, suffers 5% burn injuries in facial area

Kathmandu, Feb 15: Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel, along with Pokhara Metropolitan City Mayor Dhanaraj Acharya, is undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) of Kirtipur Hospital after sustaining burn injuries in Pokhara due to negligence.

According to a statement released by the hospital, an initial evaluation revealed that approximately 5-6% of their facial area is burned, necessitating close monitoring and intensive treatment.

The hospital’s director, Kiran Kishor Nakarmi, noted in the statement, “Preliminary assessment indicates 5-6% burns, primarily on the face. This raises the risk of potential damage to the respiratory tract and lungs, requiring high-level monitoring and care.”

A specialized team, including Dr. B.D. Jha and Dr. Praveen Giri, is leading the ICU treatment, while burn specialists Prof. Dr. Shankar Man Rai, Dr. Bishal Karki, and Dr. Manish Yadav are part of the emergency care team.

The nursing team comprises Rina Gauchan, Nirmala Kunwar, and Trishna Maharjan, among others, as per the hospital’s statement.

Both of them were airlifted from Pokhara and admitted in Kirtipur Hospital. A large number of well wishers and party cadres gathered in the hospital and wished for their speedy recovery.

According to family sources, their condition is good and talking with them.

Meanwhile Minister for Home Affairs Mr Ramesh Lekhak visited the hospital and inquired about the treatment.  Likewise lawmaker Shankar Bhandari was also among the people who rushed to the hospital. Two years back Bhandari himself was admitted in this hospital after severe burn with LPG gas burst in the room. #burn #kirtipur
