BYD Strengthens Sustainability Commitment with Advanced Battery Recycling on Global Recycling Day

Kathmandu, March 21:  On the occasion of Global Recycling Day, BYD Auto Industry Company Limited reaffirms its commitment to environmental sustainability by implementing a comprehensive battery recycling and reuse program. With the world shifting towards electric mobility, responsible end-of-life battery management is crucial to achieving a truly sustainable EV ecosystem.

As part of this initiative, BYD has signed agreements with two leading recycling service providers—IT Asset Partners, Inc., based in Chatsworth, California, USA, and Anhui Lecheng Lithium-Ion Technology Co., Ltd., based in Wuhu City, China. These partnerships, formalized on May 28, 2024, will ensure the safe, responsible, and efficient recycling of lithium-ion battery packs and batteries used in BYD’s electric vehicles (EVs).

BYD’s Circular Economy Approach to Battery Recycling

Both service providers are R2 (Responsible Recycler) Certified, meeting global standards for sustainable recycling. The recycling process will involve:

• Capacity Testing – Evaluating used batteries for potential reuse.
• Safe Dismantling – Non-usable batteries will be carefully disassembled.
• Material Recovery – Extracting valuable raw materials such as lithium, nickel, and cobalt for reuse.
• Eco-Friendly Processing – Ensuring recycled materials are supplied to approved downstream millers, refineries, and smelters.

By closing the loop on battery production and recycling, BYD is taking a major step toward reducing electronic waste, conserving natural resources, and minimizing carbon footprints.

Leading the Charge for a Greener Future

Speaking about this initiative, Mr. Sahil Shrestha, CEO of Cimex Inc. Pvt. Ltd., stated:

“As we celebrate Global Recycling Day, we recognize that sustainability is not just about producing electric vehicles—it’s about creating a truly circular economy. Our commitment to responsible battery recycling ensures that EV technology remains environmentally friendly from production to disposal.”

Impact in Nepal

With Nepal witnessing one of the world’s highest EV adoption rates, responsible battery disposal and recycling have become a key priority. BYD’s initiative aligns with Nepal’s sustainability goals, ensuring that as the country transitions to electric mobility, its environmental impact remains minimal.

Through its authorized distributor, Cimex Inc. Pvt. Ltd., BYD is actively working toward a greener future for Nepal by promoting sustainable transportation, renewable energy integration, and responsible battery management.

This Global Recycling Day, BYD takes another bold step in ensuring that sustainability is not just a vision—it’s a commitment that drives every part of its EV ecosystem.  #nepal
