Kathmandu, Dec 2: The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has decided to award ground handling services at Tribhuvan International Airport through a competitive bidding.
Any airlines company can compete for taking responsibility of ground handling services. The bidding process will start from tomorrow, said spokesperson of CAAN Jagannath Niraula.
The ground handling service at TIA is currently being provided by the national flag carrier, Nepal Airlines Corporation. With the bidding service in effect, the NAC is likely to lose the responsibility.
According to Rule 5 (2) of the Service Tariff Regulations 2078 BS, the CAAN has decided to provide ground handling services at the TIA through competitive bidding.
The ground handling service is one of the major sources of income of the ailing state-owned NAC. “Any airlines that meet the criteria can take part in the ground handling service bidding competition “, said spokesperson Niraula.
