KATHMANDU: The government has decided to hold elections in 40 districts on April 30 and in 37 districts on May 10.
Dissolving the House of Representatives, the government had earlier decided to hold mid-term elections in two phases on April 30 and May 10.
A minister informed that the cabinet meeting held on Monday decided to hold the election in the first phase in 40 districts of Provice 2, Gandaki, Lumbini and Far-Western Province on April 30. Likewise, the elections will be held in the second phase on May 10 in 37 districts of Karnali, Bagmati and Province 1.
The Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had recommended dissolving the House of Representatives on December 20 and holding elections on April 30 and May 10 for a fresh mandate. President Bidya Devi Bhandari approved the PM’s recommendation on the same day.
More than a dozen writ petitions have been debated in the Supreme Court. Following the decision to dissolve the parliament, the Election Commission has not been able to resolve the dispute over the official status of the NCP.
