Kathmandu, Dec 3: The candidates having their names in the closed lists of the proportional representation system for the upcoming National Assembly (NA), Nepal, election cannot contest in the NA poll, according to the Election Commission (EC).
The government will hold the NA election on coming January 25.
Issuing a press statement here today, the EC said that the candidates having their names in the closed list cannot vie in the NA except in the case where their names have been removed from the closed list in accordance with the proviso of Clause 30 (a) of the House of Representatives’ Election Act-2074 BS and similar proviso in Province Assembly Member Election Act-2074 BS.
As per the election schedule approved by the EC, the voter list for the NA’s vacant seats would be published on January 5. The final voter list will be published on January 7 after the claim and objection is allowed on the published voter list for two days, said Surya Prasad Aryal, Spokesperson of the Commission in the press statement.
Similarly, nomination of the candidates will begin from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on January 8 while the final list will be published on January 11. Complaints against the candidates could be filed on January 9 following the registration of the nominations.
Likewise, the final list of the candidates will be published on January 11 after examining nomination papers and complaints.
Once the withdrawal of names of the candidates not contesting the election is over on January 12, final list of the candidates will be published the same day, while the candidates will get electoral symbol next day.
