Kathmandu, Dec 30: The founder of Carter Center, Jimmy Carter, which has been extending supports to Nepal’s democracy and electoral process passed away. The world community has mourned the demise of Carter by recalling his lifelong contributions to democracy, human rights and peace process.
Nobel laureate Carter visited Nepal to observe the both the elections to the Constituent Assembly (CA).
Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya said Carter could be credited for modernization of election and democracy.
The Carter Centre in Nepal supported the CA elections and the general elections happened in 2074 BS.
Thapaliya stated that the Carter Centre supported the Election Commission for needed technology, legal and policy provisions and help prepare the standards for election monitoring.
Likewise, former Chief Election Commissioner Nilkantha Upreti said Carter could be named as the father of democracy adding that he made immense contributions to the world community in regard to human rights, education and democracy.
“He was the representative, priest and pundit of democracy for the world and Nepal,” Upreti added.
According to the international news agencies, the former US President Carter died at the age of 100. RSS #nepal
