Chandragiri begins online citizenship recommendation service

Kathmandu, Jan 28: Chandragiri Municipality has introduced an online citizenship recommendation service, making it the first municipality in the Kathmandu Valley to implement this service. The initiative began from Ward No. 12, Balambu, with coordination and support from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the District Administration Office, Kathmandu.

Mayor Ghanashyam Giri and Chief Administrative Officer Hemraj Aryal officially launched the service on Monday by providing online recommendations to residents Anuj Maharjan and Tisa Shrestha of Chandragiri–12, Balambu. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, as of the end of Poush, 2081 BS, 2,000 wards across 28 districts have implemented online recommendation services. This service, which began in 2080BS in Gaindakot, Nawalparasi, aims to simplify the citizenship acquisition process. The ministry plans to expand this initiative to all municipalities nationwide, ensuring easier record-keeping, faster service delivery, and reducing the chances of fraudulent citizenship claims.

The municipality also provided training to executive members and secretaries of all 15 wards to ensure smooth implementation.

Chandragiri Municipality plans to roll out the online citizenship recommendation service across all its wards this week. In alignment with its policy of delivering services digitally, the municipality has already introduced online services for map approval, revenue collection, and registration. During the program, Mayor Giri stated that the municipality is committed to making its services technology-friendly and plans to implement digital signatures soon.

Assistant Chief District Officer of Kathmandu, Muktiram Rijal, expressed gratitude to Chandragiri Municipality for pioneering the online citizenship recommendation service in the valley and confirmed plans to extend the service to all municipalities in Kathmandu.

According to Dibash Karki, a computer engineer at the Ministry of Home Affairs, the online recommendation service will make obtaining citizenship much easier.
