Kathmandu, Dec 14: Chandrakala Sharma has been elected as the President of the Nepal Nursing Association. Sharma, representing the joint progressive group, led her entire panel to victory.
The association’s election, which began on Friday, saw three candidates contesting for the position of president. Sharma secured 2,150 votes, defeating her closest rival Ganga Kumari Thapa, who received 1,370 votes, and Basanti Thapa, who garnered 282 votes.
In Senior Vice-President, Ramesh Subba won with 2,060 votes, while competitor Kalpana Shrestha Joshi received 1,597 votes. Likewise, in Vice-President post, Babita Ghimire secured victory with 2,011 votes, defeating Manisha Koirala, who received 1,570 votes.
– General Secretary: Dr. Devaka Kumari Acharya was elected with 1,733 votes, defeating Meenakumari Karki (1,347 votes) and Janaki Dhami (622 votes).
– Secretary: Beli Poudel won with 2,090 votes, while her rival Jaya Mishra received 1,573 votes.
– Treasurer: Tulsa Devi Adhikari secured the position with 2,188 votes, defeating Ramadevi Pahari (Gyawali), who received 1,482 votes.
In the open member category, Menuka Pokharel emerged victorious.
– Indigenous/Janajati: Kala Basyal Gurung and Hari Prasad Koju
– Dalit: Kopila Bishwakarma
– Madhesi/Muslim: Pashupati Jaiswal and Sabenaz Begum
– Unclassified: Januka Moktan and Shantikuma Bishwakarma
Additionally, in the Nepal Nursing Council Member category, Rajdevi Adhikari Ghimire, Sumita Pathak, and Radha Devi Acharya were elected.
This election highlights a significant shift in leadership within the Nepal Nursing Association, with Sharma and her team securing strong support.
