Chief Justice urges lawyers to complete pleading by February 12

KATHMANDU: Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher JB Rana has urged the government side lawyers to conclude their pleading on the issue of dissolving the House of Representatives by February 12.

A Supreme Court Constitutional Bench is hearing 13 writs filed against the President’s Office, the Prime Minister’s Office and the Office of the Council of Ministers, and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli for dissolving the House of Representatives.

He told Ramesh Badal, an advocate for the PM’s defense, on Sunday that the lawyers should have a debate by February 12.

Chief Justice Rana said the pleading should end this week. “We have provided time for lawyers of both sides from 1st of February to 12th of February,” said Chief Justice Rana.

As of Sunday, only government prosecutors have been able to argue in defense of the dissolution of parliament.
