Kathmandu, Jan 17: Chitwan District Police has submitted a supplementary investigation report to the Office of the Government Attorney, Chitwan, against 31 individuals, including Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane, and seven companies.
The report pertains to allegations of misappropriation of savings funds from Sahara Chitwan Multipurpose Cooperative. The investigation revealed that Rs 10.8 crores were transferred from the cooperative to Gorkha Network Media Pvt. Ltd. which itself is illegal. The law related to cooperative prohibits cooperatives’ investment in any type of companies.
Additionally, significant amounts of fund were found to have been transferred to other companies, including Rs 9.73 crores to Nature Herbs International Pvt. Ltd., Rs 9.27 crores to GB Group of Companies, Rs 6.81 crores to Springwood Real Estate, and Rs 6.51 crores to Nature Nest Pvt. Ltd., totaling Rs 43.14 crores. The victims of the alleged misappropriation filed a complaint with the police on Mangsir 5, 2081.
Earlier, on Ashoj 8, 2081, the police had submitted a report based on similar complaints from the victims of the cooperative. Following that report, the Office of the Government Attorney filed a case against 17 individuals, including GB Rai, in the Chitwan District Court, accusing them of embezzling savings from the cooperative.
The recent supplementary report expands the scope of the investigation, targeting more individuals and companies involved in the alleged financial irregularities.
Rabi Lamichhane had faced similar charges in Kathmandu and Kaski districts. In both districts, the district courts have released him on bail. According to sources, he will appear in courts in Chitwan, Parsa and Rupandehi soon.
He was the managing director and executive member of the Gorkha Media Network. However, Rabi has been repeatedly denying any involvement in financial matters and siphoning of huge sum of money from cooperatives into the Gorkha Media. #nepal #Rabi #Lamichhane #attorney #cooperatives
