Kathmandu, Aug 13: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a case at the Special Court against the chief of the Bhaktapur Land Reform and Revenue Office and another employee on charges of taking a bribe of Rs 24.50 lakh (2.45 million).
According to the CIAA, the complaint was lodged over a demand for bribes in connection with processing land ownership transfer documents for 14 ropani and 4 ana of land in Changunarayan Municipality by removing tenancy records and registering the land under the tenant’s name.
During the investigation, CIAA officials arrested Chief Land Revenue Officer Kumar Acharya and office assistant Tikaram Raut from the Bhaktapur office. Along with their mobile phones, the team also seized the alleged bribe amount of Rs 2.45 million from them.
CIAA spokesperson and joint secretary Rajendra Kumar Poudel said it was confirmed that the bribe was solicited under the pretext of facilitating the tenancy division and ownership transfer process in collusion with the service recipient. The investigation revealed that Raut had physically received the bribe in line with a plan made together with Acharya.
The case has been filed under Section 3(1) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059 BS, with a claim amounting to Rs 2.45 million as restitution. In addition, under Section 3(1)(gh) of the Act, the CIAA has sought a prison sentence along with a fine equivalent to the restitution amount. #CIAA #nepal #bribary
