Kathmandu, Feb 10: The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) that was established for checking graft has entered into 34th years of its inception from today onward.
The 34th establishment day is being observed at its Tangal-based office today with special programmes on the promotion of good governance. CIAA Secretary Ghanshyam Upadhyay shared that President Ramchandra Paudel has been invited as the chief guest for today’s programme.
The Commission is a constitutional body established with the objective of curbing all forms of corruption. The Constitution has authorized the Commission to focus on controlling corruption. Upholding the constitutional spirit, the Commission has focused its role by adopting punitive, preventive, promotional and institutional capacity building strategies to curb graft in the country, it is claimed.
Article 239 of the Constitution provides for the functions, duties and powers of the CIAA. According to the article, the anti-graft constitutional body can conduct an investigation in accordance with the law into the misuse of authority by a person holding a public office.
If any person holding public office is found to have committed any act considered corruption, the CIAA can file a case against such person.
According to the commission’s 34th annual report, a total of 27,714 complaints have been disposed of among 36,186 complaints including 26,918 registered in the commission and subordinate offices in the fiscal year 2080/81 and 9,268 in the last fiscal year.#nepal #rss
