Congress leader Thapa proposed for Koshi Chief Minister

Kathmandu, July 3: Today’s meeting of the ruling coalition has decided to make Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party leader Uddhav Thapa the Chief Minister in Koshi Province.

In a meeting held on Monday at Baluwatar, the official residence of the Prime Minister, it was decided to expand the cabinet by making Thapa the Chief Minister as Nepali Congress has the largest number of members in Koshi Province.

Leaders including Sher Bahadur Deuba from Nepali Congress, Mahantha Thakur from Loktantrik Samajbadi Party, Upendra Yadav from JSP among others participated in the meeting.

Informing about the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Acting Chairman of CPN (Unified Socialist) Rajendra Pandey said, “On behalf of the parties in the alliance, we have agreed to make Uddhav Thapa, the leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party, the Chief Minister.”

Last Friday, CPN (UML) leader Hikmat Kumar Karki was relieved of his post after not receiving a vote of confidence. Province Chief Parshuram Khapung has already called parties to form government.

According to sources, the parties agreed on appointing Chief Minister on turn basis. Accordingly, Nepali Congress has agreed to send Chief Minister in the first phase.
