Kathmandu, Sept 11: The meeting of the Constitutional Council scheduled to be held today has been postponed. The meeting that was supposed to meet this evening to recommend the new Chief Justice of the Supreme Court has been postponed, Chairperson of National Assembly, Narayan Prasad Dahal, said.
Incumbent Chief Justice Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha is retiring from October 6. According to the constitutional provision, the process of appointing the new Chief Justice starts a month before the retirement of the incumbent Chief Justice.
The Judicial Council had sent the names of possible eight justices on September 5 and the meeting was scheduled to discuss the same list.
The Constitutional Council chaired by the Prime Minister comprises of the Chief Justice, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Chairperson of the National Assembly, the leader of the main opposition party in the House of Representatives and the Deputy Speaker of the HoR as members. #nepal
