Kathmandu, Sept 25: The permanent landfill site being constructed at Bancharedanda has been stalled for over two weeks.
The Ministry of Urban Development is constructing the waste disposal site along the border of Nuwakot and Dhading.
According to the Ministry of Urban Development, construction of the site has witnessed trouble following landslides in Sisdole on the way to Bancharedanda. Krishna Prasad Dawadi, Spokesperson of the Ministry, shared that construction works got stalled after landslides occurred on the way leading to the waste disposal site following torrential rain.
He further informed now the debris of landslide is being removed from the road. The construction works will resume once the removal is done.
The construction site is two-km away from Sisdole where waste is currently being managed.
At the request of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, the federal government had initiated the construction of permanent landfill site. The Ministry of Urban Development has allocated Rs 3.8 million for the construction.
The cabinet meeting had decided to hand over the responsibility for constructing waste disposal site to the Ministry of Urban Development.
The disposal site equipped with infrastructures will include a 15-metre high dam, the ministry said.
