Kathmandu, Nov 22: Former Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Chhabilal Joshi, who is accused of embezzling funds from Swarnalaxmi Multipurpose Cooperative based in Kalimati, Kathmandu, was interrogated on Thursday after being brought to Kathmandu.
Joshi, who was brought from Kaski to Kathmandu on Mangsir 4, was questioned throughout the day at the Kathmandu District Attorney’s Office, according to its spokesperson, Sitaram Aryal. The statement-taking process has now been completed.
Joshi, already in police custody over accusations of embezzling funds from Pokhara-based Suryadarshan Cooperative, was brought to Kathmandu for questioning following a separate complaint lodged against him.
The Kathmandu District Court has also issued an arrest warrant against Rabi Lamichhane, President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), in connection with the same case of cooperative fund embezzlement. Lamichhane is expected to be summoned for questioning soon.
In this case, another accused, Kumar Ramtel, has already been interrogated and sent back to Pokhara. Previously, Lamichhane and Joshi had also been interrogated in Rupandehi regarding allegations of embezzlement linked to the Supreme Cooperative.
Last Sunday, Judge Shishir Raj Dhakal of the Kathmandu District Court issued arrest warrants against both Lamichhane and Joshi. Over 600 victims have filed complaints, alleging misappropriation of funds in the Swarnalaxmi Multipurpose Cooperative.
