KATHMANDU: A total of 254,494 people (97.2 percent) recovered from coronavirus infection so far in the country.
In a regular press briefing on Sunday, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr Jageshwor Gautam, shared that 2,311 individuals tested positive for coronavirus till today from the last Wednesday.
Similarly, altogether 3,182 people recovered from the infection during the same period.
Dr Gautam said that coronavirus infection was confirmed on 421 people in course of carrying out RT-PCR tests on 5,800 people in the past 24 hours. Of them, 197 are from Kathmandu Valley including 160 from Kathmandu district, 26 from Lalitpur and 11 from Bhaktapur.
Likewise, 637 people recovered from the infection in past 24 hours. According to Dr Gautamn, eight more people lost their lives from coronavirus on Sunday taking the total death toll 1,878 so far.
Three more Nepalis die from Covid-19 in foreign land
Three more Nepalis have died from Covid-19 in the foreign land. One death from the infection has been reported in the United Kingdom this week and two in Portugal, according to the Non-Resident Nepali Association. As of Saturday evening, 53,385 Nepalis in various 50 countries contracted the deadly virus, said Sanjib Sapkota, coordinator of the health committee of the NRNA.
Of them, 50,656 have got recovery. The recovery rate is 94 percent. This week, additional infection cases among Nepalis living in Spain, Poland, Japan, UAE, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Qatar occurred, said Chiran Sharma, press coordinator of the NRNA Covid-19 High Level Committee.
Similarly, the infection took lives of 1,870 people in Nepal with an infection caseload of 261,438. Of the infected, 253,857 have got over the virus, which is 97.1 percent recovery rate.
There have been possibilities to import Covid-19 vaccines to Nepal by coming April, said Sapkota.
