COVID-19: Additional 5,316 people infected, 101 die in 24 hours



KATHMANDU: In the last 24 hours, additional 5,316 people have been confirmed to be infected with the coronavirus.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, 101 people have died. The number of those recovered from infection is 7,219. With this, a total of 461,563 people have recovered from COVID-19 infection.

In Nepal, a total of 571,111 people got infected by this deadly virus. The recovery rate is 80.8%.

There are still 837 people are in quarantine across the country, the ministry says. The health system has tested 16,878 samples within the 24 hours.

The vaccination drive has come under tremendous pressure due to unavailability of Covishield vaccine. A total of 2,113,080 people have received at least one doses of vaccine. The people receiving second dose of vaccine stood 714,163, the ministry says.

According to the ministry, 1,446 people are still in ICUs and 385 people in ventilators across the country.

Meanwhile, the government of France has handed over support materials to Nepal. The materials included as FFP2 masks 504,000 piece, Antigenic tests 20,225 test, protection glasses 12,000 pieces, Osiris III respirators 9 and Sirius 50 respirators 5.

These medical materials were handed over today to the Minister for Health and Population Hridayesh Tripathi.

Likewise, the embassy of United Arab Emirates in Kathmandu handed over different support materials today to Nepal.

According to the Ministry of Health, the support materials included 243,000 mask, 75,000 mask, 9,000 coverall, 15,000 gown, 20,000 goggles, 150 ventilator BiPAP and 150 trolleys.
