CPN UML left Bagmati government, Congress to vote for Jamkattel

Hetauda, March 24: The CPN UML has decided to withdraw from the Bagmati provincial government. Likewise, the party has decided not to give a vote of confidence to Chief Minister Shalikram Jamkattel.

It is said that the Nepali Congress will participate in the government after the UML leaves the government. Five parties including CPN UML participated in the government formed under the leadership of CPN (Maoist Centre) leader Shalikaram Jamkattel on January 9, 2023.

The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), which is part of the government, has already separated from the government. After the RPP withdrew from the government on February 25, 2023, Jamkattel had scheduled a vote of confidence from the provincial assembly on March 22, 2023. Since the Nepali Congress did not participate, the program of taking the vote of confidence later that day was postponed for today (Friday).

Chief Minister Jamkattel is going to take the vote of confidence according to clause (2) of Article 188 of the Constitution. Chief Minister Jamkattel said that if any party that has supported the government withdraws its support, the vote of confidence must be taken from the parliament within one month.

Chief Minister Jamkattel earlier garnered votes from CPN UML, CPN (Maoist Centre), Rastriya Prajatantra Party, CPN (Unified Socialist) Party and Our Nepali Party. Likewise, Nepali Congress also had supported Jamkattel-led government.
