KATHMANDU: The Member of Parliament (MP) of CPN UML Mr Mohan Baniya has been suspended. The meeting of the House of Representatives on Sunday suspended Baniya from the post after he was arrested in Nepalgunj on charges of rape of a woman.
The MP from Mugu district, Baniya, who was accused of rape, was arrested by the police from Nepalgunj. A team of the District Police Office, Banke, had arrested Baniya from Nepalgunj Airport on February 28 after he was accused of rape. He has been remanded in custody for further investigation by the court.
A complaint was lodged with the police on February 2 alleging that Baniya had raped a 40-year-old woman at Apsara Hotel in Nepalgunj. The victim had lodged a complaint against Baniya at the District Police Office, Banke on February 10.
