Death toll in Simkot drink-driving truck accident reaches four

Simkot, Humla: The death toll in the Simkot truck accident reaches four. At least 12 were injured in the accident.

The latest victim of the drink-driving accident that took place when a tipper truck skidded off the road and fell approximately 30 meters at Lagradanda of Simkot rural municipality in Humla district on Wednesday evening has been identified as Bakta Rokaya of Simkot rural municipality-6. Rokaya died at the district hospital.

Other deceased are Tshering Karma Lama and Nori Lama, both of Namkha rural municipality-1 and Babarjung Shahi of Kharpunath rural municipality-1. The ill-fated truck (Lu 4 Kha 3269) carrying rice and other necessities supplied by the Nepal Food Corporation was headed to the district headquarters, Simkot.

The injured, most of them in serious condition, are receiving treatment at the district hospital, said the police.

The local people held and handed over the driver of the truck, Ananda Tamang, to the police. Earlier right after the accident, Minister for Social Development of Karnali State, Dal Rawal reached the hospital to take stock of the health of the injured people.
